Big Berber set of fibulas, Morocco

This is a complete set of silver fibulae from Tiznit – Tafraoute, worn by Berber women. They are made of silver and enamel, with glass settings. It is in very good condition and all elements are original.

Both fibulae were cut from a sheet of silver and then etched with fine decoration and enamel. The chains linking both fibulae are also decorated with enamel and glass. On top of the silver taguemout (egg shape bead at the center), there’s a decorated hook that was attached to the clothes to lighten the weight of the set. Old silver coins hang from the taguemout.

From the 1st half of the XXth Century, the set was collected in Morocco in the ’60s by the previous owner.

Dimensions:

Each fibula (with the pin): H 24 x W 20,5 cm
Length to the silver egg 51 cm
Size of egg: 6 cm
Weight 480 gr.
