Gujarat “akota” earrings, India

Big Gujarati earrings called “Akota”, worn in Saurashtra and Kutch by the Rajput, Patel, Kanbi, Mer, Rabari and other communities. Made of high-grade silver. They are worn in stretched earlobe holes.

From the beginning of the 20th century or earlier.

According to Ganguly, the Akota earrings are not in use anymore, and women from the communities mentioned above stopped using them around the 50’s.
