Silver ornament from the Bai, Dong or Miao minorities, SW China

Old ornament from the Bai, Dong or Miao minorities. It depicts butterflies, flowers, pomegranates.

The quality of silver is very good, and the decoration is very refined.

It is not clear if it was used sewn onto a neckcloth as a fastener or as a head ornament.

From the 1st half of the XXth Century.

Most of the Chinese silver items like this one were made by silversmiths working during the Qing Dynasty (1622-1911) or were still being made in some remote areas as the South region where Chinese minorities inhabit. They are very difficult to find now.

Diameter of the medals – brooches: 7,5 cm – 2,95 in

The chain between the brooches is 9,5 cm long (3,74 in)

It weighs 77 gr.
