Old Nupe (Tapa) ivory bracelet,  Nigeria

Old bracelet from the Nupe tribe, from the XIX century.

Made of ivory with metal studs. The rich variety of tones on the ivory is due to palm oil which is used by Nupe women to protect the bracelet.

Weight: 138 gr.

The Nupe, traditionally called the Tapa by the neighbouring Yoruba, are an ethnic group located primarily in the Middle Belt and northern Nigeria, and are the dominant group in  Niger State.

With an appraisal certificate stating that the ivory is pre-1947.
