old silver Buddhist portable shrine, Tibet
Old and Buddhist gau box worn by men or used in the family altar. They usually contain a clay image of a sitting Buddha wrapped in a piece of blessed fabric, but this is removed if the gau is not going to be used anymore in the family. The front side is made of silver and bronze nicely embossed with floral decoration. The back of the pendant is made of copper and it can be opened.
From 1st half of 20th Century, maybe older. Silver has great worn patina.
It measures aprox. 10,5 cm high (4,13 in), 9 cm wide (3,54 in) and 4 cm (1,57 in) thick.
