Heavy Rajasthan bracelet, India

Heavy tribal flexible Rajasthan or Punjabi armlet, called bazuband (bahutta for muslims). It’s made of several silver pieces tied with a cotton cord that can be fastened with a silver bead. It’s originally worn just above the elbow, one on each arm, but it can also be worn as a bracelet. This type of bracelets is spread also in other parts of India with minimal variations.

Some of this bracelets are made with little empty pendants, but this one has massive pendants, that make this bracelet heavier than other similar examples.

From the beginning of the XXth Century. The string to fasten the bracelet has been repaired recently.

The garlic-shaped silver pieces are meant to protect against the evil eye.
