Silver box “sanduq” for a man’s belt, Yemen

Old silver box for men that was attached to the belt, to store small things. Very detailed decoration with extraordinary workmanship. The front side and the top are all decorated in openwork.

According to Anne Leurquin, the “sanduq” shows the wealth and social rank of the wearer.

Made of high-grade silver (tested).

From the end of the 19th Century.
