Kerala  silver belt, South Indian

Old high-grade silver belt from Kerala, South India. Sixteen amulets and other silver beads are strung on a thick “snake” chain, which fastens with a hook. Some of the amulets on this belt seem to have been gilded. Silver content has been tested with acid.

Each amulet is finely worked on one side.

From the first half of the 20th century.
