Men’s belt buckle “pending” from West Sumatra.

Bronze with niello, which is a technique of using a paste of sulfur to create a dark pattern.

From the 1st half of the 20th century or earlier.

According to Carpenter, Belt buckles were one of the most important statements of rank throughout Sumatra, and they could be of inmense size.
